Small disaster

Not exactly sure what happened here, tbh. I'm pretty sure it wasn't one of the kids, because if it was I suspect the hat would be in a much worse state that this if it was!

Don't know if it's possible to fix the hole itself? I think I might have to take the ribbing off and just knit it back on in the opposite direction. That's probably going to be the easiest thing for me to do anyway.

In other knitting, I managed to finish the pair of shorties/longies I was knitting for the new bub. No pic yet, but I'll put one up after it's born. Managed to stuff it up a bit though. That will teach me to try and knit when I'm sick.

Feeling a bit flat :(

This is fast turning into a whinge-blog! This $%#@& cold is still hanging around. Some days I wake up feeling ok, other days I wake up feeling like I've been hit by a truck :( today is one of those days. And I have to clean the house today because I've organised a play-date for L, to alleviate the boredom of being stuck in the house with a very pregnant and sick mother.

No FO's to post unfortunately. I do have a WIP which I've had to abandon for a bit due to the hands... AGAIN! I think it must be the weather. It's warm-ish here - not hot, but in the mid-20s and it's been a little bit humid and my hands have been really hurting again :( not to mention the swelling in my feet also. I was casting off one leg of the shorties I was making and my hands were tingly and numb by the end of it :( So I've put them away for the moment - they are one-legged and may stay that way for a while. On the upside I had some yarny goodness arrive in the mail the other day. No pics of that atm, but must get them into my Ravelry stash soon. The downside to that of course, is that I cannot really do anything with it due to the hand situation. So I'm just patting and admiring for the moment.

I'm thinking I'm going to take some knitting to the hospital with me. Maybe I could knit between contractions?! Or during? Surely that would be a distraction to the pain?! LOL Actually I'm thinking I could knit during my stay - you know, because in between feeding and changing, the baby is going to sleep oh-so-peacefully and I am going to be well-rested, with plenty of time on my hands to do stuff like knit LOL I quite enjoy my hospital stays - well, I enjoyed the last one - someone else cooking my meals, cleaning my room, jugs full of ice-chips on call. No ice chips around here that's for sure.

Here's a picture just to break up the monotomy....

Finished Longies

I finally finished the longies for the new bub. Took me way longer than it normally would, but I managed it. I'd like to get another pair done up before the new arrival gets here, but not sure how I'll go. Anyway, here they are....

I used the Picky Pants pattern but just did a k2p2 ribbed waistband with no holes for a drawstring. Not sure if I'll make one to thread through or not yet. Might wait and see how they fit. It's not like the baby is going to be running around much so they fall down a lot. The Yarn is Blackberry Ridge Merino in the Plum Tree colourway which I bought a long time ago from Monster Knits. It's lovely. I think I have enough left to make a soaker also.

And for a size comparison, here is a pic of the longies next to the ones I made for M last year. Back then they were a bit long for him and had to be turned up, now they are the perfect length.

Look how tiny they are!!! You forget how small bubs can be. I'm not really sure on the sizing tbh. The yarn is not the correct weight nor did I use the correct size needles. I just knit the medium (I think) sizing to start with, but didn't increase at all, and then knit the rest according to the small sizing. With my gauge being off though, I guess they are probably a bit between the newborn/small sizing. There is quite a lot of room in them though, so I'm happy that they'll fit decently at some stage.

I cast on the other night for a pair of socks too, using the merino bambino that I used for this hat. I think they are coming out a bit big though as I'm using larger needles. I'll knit another pair on the correct needles next and hopefully get a nice newborn sized sock.

The Curse of the School Holidays

I am sick. And I kid you not... every single school holidays of 2007, one of us was sick too. If it wasn't L, it was M, or me. Or a combination of the three of us. All to the point where we weren't really able to leave the house to do much because someone felt crappy and it wouldn't have been fair to drag that someone around for the sake of entertainment for the other someones. Great start to the 2008 school holiday season.

It started with L and a fever a few weekends ago, which didn't last long, wasn't an infection of any kind, but did develop into the sniffles a few days later. But one day of school missed wasn't too bad and I thought we'd come out unscathed. Then of course M wakes up with a high temp last week. That only lasted less than 24 hours, but his developed into a full-blown cold thingo quite quickly. All was going well for me though and I was congratulating myself on staying well. Until Saturday. After a 2 hour, pre-arranged stint at the hairdresser, I literally spent the rest of the day in bed asleep. The boys spent the afternoon on the couch watching movies (they are all feeling a bit yuck still, including DH now too). Luckily they were happy to do that. M had a much needed nap too, so a good day all round LOL

Since then it's been non-stop snotsville and major congestion. The achy-ness has gone, but the headache, sore throat and boogers have hung around. I suspect that M has the sore throat too, but he seems to have perked up a bit. L's got the runny nose, but otherwise seems ok. And DH has gone to work to spread the love.

so what I'd really like to do is curl up on the couch and knit. Only I just want to lie down all the time, and the knitting thing still isn't quite working for me. I did manage to finish off the pair of longies I was making for the new bub. What would normally have taken probably only a couple of days at the most, took a little over two weeks. But they are done. And I shall post pics of them as soon as I feel better. They are so tiny! I'll have to remember to photograph them next to a pair of M's for size comparison.

Now to find something we can do to pass the time at home, in between nose blowing and coughing.

I think I'm retaining a bit of fluid

**Warning** picture of feet below. Don't look if pictures of feet gross you out LOL

I don't have a before short for comparison, but trust me, my feet are not usually that big or sausage like! Check the left ankle! and this is at 10 in the morning! you should see them by 10 at night. Sometimes they feel like they are going to explode. Fortunately my blood pressure is perfectly fine, so my fluid retention is "nothing to worry about" (according to the midwife lol) she's not the one trying to walk around on those things! Actually this is nothing compared to what it was like in my first pregnancy. I'll get a pic of my hands one day soon too. A friend commented that they looked like "man-hands" on the weekend. Ah, the joys of pregnancy.

Oh, btw, the lizard isn't real. But it does look like he finds my feet a tasty prospect LOL

More baby stuff

A hat.

I made this up myself and it turned out ok I think. Not sure if/when it will fit LOL but it looks like a hat, so that's a bonus! I used Cleckheaton Merino Bambino, which is lovely and soft. I have plenty left too so I can make some matching socks, and I may get more of the mint colour to make a jacket of some sort. I'll see. The knitting is still proving difficult with the carpal tunnel issue, but I can knit a little bit in short stints. I've started a pair of longies for the new bub and I'm taking those VERY slowly.
